My name is Teresa Schmidt and I am a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor practicing in Smithers, BC. I first felt the draw towards mental health and psychology years ago when, as a full time wife and mother, I began to read books on recovering from childhood trauma and substance abuse so I could better understand my own past and better support my loved ones who were struggling. Before I could begin my official journey as a student of psychology however, life took me on a difficult and heartbreaking journey. I learned first hand what trauma, loss and grief look like as one tragedy after another swept into my life, leaving me and my family shell-shocked and devastated. As I began to regain my footing and put the pieces of my life back together, I deeply desired to find meaning amongst the brokenness and purpose from the pain. I became committed to the healing process in my own life and passionate about seeing people work through their painful life experiences. I count it a privilege to provide counselling for those struggling with loss and grief, depression, past trauma, relationship issues, anger management and abuse issues. I strive to help you unlock the underlying challenges, life issues and struggles in a safe, judgment free space. My approach is client centered, collaborative, flexible and integrative, focusing on the whole of the individual. Together we can move beyond coping and management skills, working to resolve the challenges you face, providing a greater sense of freedom, strength, and wisdom to move towards the future.
